Survey Boundary Files

The Transportation Tomorrow Survey (TTS) and Metropolitan Toronto and Region Transportation Study (MTARTS) are origin destination travel surveys.

The Survey Data is available through the Internet Data Retrieval System (iDRS).

This page contains the geographic data files for the spatial aggregations used in iDRS.

The finest level of spatial aggregation available through iDRS is that of the Traffic Zone.

The Traffic Zone is a polygon which typically falls along the centre line of roads or the natural geographic boundaries.

The survey area is subdivided into traffic zones based on the planning needs of the participating agencies.

The available boundary data is divided by data set:

1. TTS Boundary Files
2. MTARTS Boundary Files

Transportation Tomorrow Survey Boundary Files

The 2006 Transportation Tomorrow Survey (TTS) is the largest and most comprehensive travel survey ever conducted in Ontario or perhaps anywhere in North America.

The TTS data contains detailed demographic on all members of a surveyed household and a ledger of travel information over an entire weekday.

Notes:

1. The Regional Boundaries can be retrieved by aggregating the Local Municipality Boundaries by region.
2. Logically each Region contains its Local Municipalities that in turn each contain Traffic Zones.
   While the Traffic Zones fit perfectly inside the Regional Boundaries they sometimes overflow the Local Municipality Boundaries.
3. The TTS Data Guide (available in the TTS Reports Section) provides the exact list of the Traffic Zones that belong to each Regional and Local Municipality.
4. Traffic Zone Boundary Report's that contain a detailed numbering of traffic zones on the corresponding road network are available for the 2006, 2001 and 1996 zone systems.
